“We’ll be working closely with Egyptian clients in close collaboration”

The Polish apple harvest is in a rut, because there’s a severe shortage of top quality apples. Mohamed Marawan, owner of Polish exporter of apples Sarafruit: “The Polish apple season has seen little changes since the end of December the previous year. Apple availability remains low when it comes to high-quality apples. Farmers are currently opening up their cooling rooms and are requesting premium costs. Although our customers are willing to pay this price We often refuse to purchases due to quality concerns. Also, we’ve had apples come in for sorting, and we were forced return to producers, after issues surfaced. This isn’t a secret; even in the case of short transport times that the quality of apples can be a concern. The quality of the apples has been affected due to the changes in weather which I’ve never witnessed this kind of problem on such a massive scale prior to. The fact that apples are stored in coolers for such an long period of time will produce the financial benefit which some farmers were hoping to achieve.”

While there are a few Golden apple varieties that are of adequate quantity, they don’t be competitive with lesser-priced apples from different European nations, Marawan emphasizes. “For the one type of apple, there’s an abundance of apples that are of adequate quality, which is Golden apple, however in this particular variety, the supply is extremely limited and the cost for Polish Golden is higher than those of others European producers. It seems that the market is extremely slow at present because of these prices. Also, keeping current high quality of the apples it was not our time this year to market in the far-off markets. However, we have to remain competitive against European producers. They offer high quality apples at a reasonable price. products.”

In the coming year, apple trade among Poland and Egypt is set to be at full speed as well. Marawan is extremely happy to begin the process once more: “Egypt is very important market for Sarafruit and we’ve got an extremely effective strategy in the case of Egypt in the coming season. We will give them a premium quality fruit at the most competitive prices, like we do every year. We’ll be working extremely closely to continue where we left off when problems started. It’s never a problem to work with them. we can’t wait to get it moving again!”

“Looking towards the future I’m not expecting for the rest of the year that we will see any fruit of enough value to export. If we find any apple varieties that meet the standards they will cost a lot for customers, seeking reasonable rates,” Marawan concludes.
