“In the 2023 summer The UN chairman declared: “The time of global warming is here.’ Aomori Prefecture was hit by intense temperatures. This resulted in apple production dropped by about 20% because of various difficulties, including the apples falling from trees prior to the optimal harvesting period, sunburn damages as well as damage caused by animals that cause harm and regular instances of disease and pests. The extreme heat of last year caused a decline in the harvest this year which has led to a slowing of the activity of bees that are essential for pollination and an increase in the number of fruits. Also, we are concerned about the consequences from the scorching heat which will likely to persist throughout the year.”

The principal market for exports of Japanese Aomori apple is Asian However, Mr. Obori explained that the mission in Aomori Trading is to develop new markets. “We only export the product to North America for years and exported to Canada and to the UK at first this year. We continue to develop the market aggressively.”

“Our different markets require different requirements. In particular, markets in which Chinese apples are extremely popular require huge sizes and uncommon varieties. For instance, the Taiwan market is more favourable to the Fuji type of apples.”
