Vietnam has seen a rise in the number of revenue from exports of fruits thanks to improved market access

Exports from Vietnam’s fruit industry amounted to 4.63 billion dollars during the initial eight months of 2024. This is an increase of 30.6 percentage increase over last year’s figures, fueled by the opening of several major markets. The industry of fruit in Vietnam has experienced positive growth this year, including the introduction of pomelos to Korea, pomelos entering the Republic of Korea, and fresh coconuts as well as frozen durians launching official exports to China. Being able to sell these items into international market has extended the scope of Vietnamese exports of fruits, increasing the value of these products.

Durian widely referred to for being the “king of fruit” is the main factor in this increase and revenues averaging 1.7 billion USD during the first 7 months of this year and accounting for 41% of all profits from export of fruit. Exports of frozen durian alone will produce 400-500 million dollars in the coming year, and there are predictions that it will join to the “billion-USD” club in 2025.

The Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized the advantages that exporting frozen durian as a way to diversify the product as well as value enhancement. Similar to this Doan Thu Giang from Vinh Khang JSC emphasized the company’s ability to sell frozen durian. Dang Phuc Nguyen of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association stated the fact that exporting frozen durian could help to balance production, ensuring prices are stable, as well as increasing the income of the stakeholders.

In 2023, China’s imports of frozen and fresh durian was estimated at 6.7 billion USD and more than 1 billion USD, in each case.
