Morocco has seen an increase in its overall exports of veggies as well as EastFruit advises you to pay attention the explosive growth of Moroccan exports of Brussels sprouts to the UK. Moroccan exporters have been able create exports in only the last few years, starting from scratch.
It is evident from the graph, just a couple of years back Brussels sprouts imported from Morocco weren’t available to the UK market. Moroccan producers were able to set up exports in the year 2019, however the quantity of deliveries were low in comparison to one year after. It was a dramatic change following “Brexit” which meant that Britain required alternative routes to import. Morocco significantly increased exports of a variety of fruit, vegetables, and berries, to the British market. It also saw increasing trade of Brussels sprouts.
Since then, the imports from Moroccan vegetables to the UK are on the rise and quantities of produce have set an increase each year. So, within only three years, the volume of Brussels sprouts that were imported into Britain from Morocco has increased 10 times. The amount of Brussels sprouts imported into Britain by 2023 was 1600 tonnes, which earned Morocco $2.2 million in export earnings. It is important to note that in 2023, the data for January through July will be considered in the calculation, as Moroccan Brussels sprouts can be sold throughout this time, respectively for the present year, the season for exports has ended.
