The prices of potatoes in Bishkek climb to $0.74 per kilo in the midst of Kyrgyzstan is looking at restrictions on exports

At a recent parliamentary meeting in the parliamentary chamber, MPP Eldar Abakirov highlighted that potato prices in Bishkek increased to $0.68-$0.74 for a kilogram. The MP said “We produce potatoes in huge areas, such as the Issyk Kul the region of Issyk-Kul, Alai, Chon-Alai, and Kochkor. We’re happy for the farmers but $0.74 per kilogram seems like an expensive price for the average person. If a bag of bread cost $19.45 an equivalent bag of potatoes will cost $28.60-$34.30.” The MP asked to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry to inform MPs about how to prepare for the season of arable and to outline plans for the future to avoid price increases.

In the past it was reported that earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture suggested a temporarily imposed restriction on exports of potatoes and claimed that Kyrgyzstan is able to store enough stocks. Additionally, Kazakhstan imposed a six-month restriction on exports of potatoes to non-EAEU nations in January. The goal was to keep prices stable in the domestic market amid rising demands from neighboring countries such as Uzbekistan.
