The price of the new harvest of potato, cabbage and carrots increased sharply.
Companies from the agricultural sector began delivering young cabbage for sale at 30 percent higher costs as compared to a week ago. The reason for the price rise is a decrease in quantity of the product on the market, as well as the high demand from consumers. Early cabbage cost about 1.5 times more than the current price.
Carrots are in short supply on Ukrainian farms are at a minimum and farmers are able to hike prices. There is no way to completely eliminate the shortage through imports. From the start of the week, the carrots from last year cost have increased by 10 10%.
“Seasonal vegetables are expected to get cheaper most likely, by the start of June and, in the worst case scenario at mid-June, as local grown produce starts showing up on our shelves. This spring’s been extremely cold. Expect a drop in the price to be between 20 and 30 percent” claims expert Oleg Pendzin.
