“The market for Apricots is growing, and the high-quality products are available’

The market for apricots is expanding and the quality is superb. Antonio Zani, sales manager for Granfrutta Zani, reports that “harvesting can be ten or more days ahead of schedule. The quality was low in May. However, things are definitely improving. The loss was around 20% to 30% of our product due to hailstorms that were extremely violent We are able to collect premium quality produce using only anti-hail and antifrost products.”

The ideal apricots for high-end packets as well as typical ones that are suitable for punnets can be found. “The ones with the red hue are becoming increasingly popular, not only due to their attractive, but also because they taste delicious. That is, of course, only happens if they’re picked when they are right and well managed. This isn’t a thing that is improvised.”

Granfrutta Zani has its own exclusive line of premium products under it’s Solatia brand. “Sales are booming in Italy and are increasing internationally. The most popular destinations include Germany, Norway and Austria. The forecasts predict a decrease in supply on a European scale, and the demand is expected to increase in other countries as well.”

For nectarines and peaches the grades are quite low currently. “Those who trimmed and thinning well early get larger fruit, which means better price. But, due to labor shortages some were unable to manage the thinning phase effectively and are now obtaining smaller fruit. Prices for the larger grades are reasonable.”
