The launch of Canadian Snowflake winter apple

The apple was developed to be used in Canadian orchards and orchards in Canada, the Snowflake(tm) Apple is expected to be the most popular for the winter months.

The Canadian Algoma Orchards has partnered with Agriculture and Agri Food Canada’s famous breeding program for tree fruits to provide consumers with a unique Canadian apple. Non-GMO Snowflake(tm) apple features a rosy red skin that resembles the bright cheeks of people who love the Canadian winters. It is coated with delicate snowflake-like Lenticels. The snow-white flesh of the apple is delicious clean and sweet, with some tartness surpassing the long-running consumer favourite Honeycrisp when tasted in a blind test. Canadian retail stores and customers can both profit from the excellent features for storage at the grocery store as well as at house.

The Snowflake(tm) apple combines two long-standing leaders of the Canadian industry of apples. Algoma Orchards and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada have been operating in their respective fields for more than 100 years. Algoma Orchards is led by the Kemp family who’s multi-generational knowledge of the cultivation of apples dates into the early 1800s. Over four generations, Kemp families have diligently taken care of their apple orchards in their entire Durham Region of Ontario through the seasons of rain, sun and snow.

“At Algoma, we take pleasure in identifying the most productive varieties for our gardens,” says Kirk Kemp who is the president of Algoma Orchards. “We collaborate with our retail customers to ensure that they can then delight their customers by offering new and exciting taste variety. For instance, the Snowflake apple is a wonderful illustration of this partnership.”
