As part of a joint operation, officials from National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) of the Dominican Republic, alongside Military Security at the Caucedo Multimodal Port and Customs inspectors, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, intercepted the 204 sheets of what is that was believed as cocaine. The illicit substances were smuggled inside a banana container that was intended to be shipped to Europe.
After receiving actionable information, officials took the time to thoroughly inspect several export containers. The anomalies found within one container led to an in-depth inspection that resulted in the identification of narcotics within the container that was intended to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The hiding method was comprised of containers with fake tops, containing hundreds of sheets that were wrapped with brown adhesive tape. The tape was designed to circumvent security precautions.
This has resulted in an investigation that is extensive and aimed at eliminating the alleged international trafficking network known for concealing the operation behind agriculture exports that are shipped to markets throughout Europe as well as in the United States, and Canada.
