The effects of climate change, however, have become commonplace over the last few years. this is especially the sector of vegetables and fruits that is most prone to the effects of climate change, and is more vulnerable than the other agricultural sectors. According to EastFruit experts the situation in Uzbekistan as well as in other Central Asian countries, the spring of 2024 was deemed to be extremely cool and wet, leading to a delay in maturing of a variety of fruits, such as cherries. It also had an adverse effect on the quality characteristics of the fruits.
While the first wholesale loads of cherries from Uzbekistan typically arrive on the market by the beginning of April, in 2024, the first commercial lots were offered through the market in the middle of May. The quality of the cherries were also a bit to be to be desired.
As of now, there remain no huge quantities of more than 28+ cherry available in the marketplace. As a result, we’ve not found the average cost for this type of cherry. However, bigger cherries are most sought-after on the international market, particularly for the export market to China.
The wholesale market in Uzbekistan Sweet cherry prices lower than 26 millimeters will be close to the highest in this time of the year. This is even when measured in US dollars. It is interesting to note that only cherry varieties that were harvested in the early stages are available.
In the past, the season for cherries in Uzbekistan was over by the middle of June, however, in 2024, it starts at the end of the month of May. This can cause issues with the export of these fruit as even in Ukraine local cherry trees are in the process of being picked and are being sold. This means that prices for cherries in Uzbekistan could fall more quickly than normal if the harvest is not found to be smaller than the initial estimations.
