Chinese mandarins partly replaced Moroccan imports to Russia by 2024 despite a decline in exports from Morocco as well as Turkey. But, Turkey remains Russia’s primary source of citrus, supplying 36% of the total imports according to estimates from RIA Novosti using the open data available and “Rusprodsoyuz” data.
Within the first 9 months of 2024, more than 320,000 tons of Mandarins were brought to Russia. In total, Russian imports of mandarin dropped by 67,000 tons however, growth from other sources reached more than 50,000 tonnes. Other than Turkey and Morocco and Morocco, there was a decline on imports from Egypt, Pakistan, Israel, Azerbaijan, and Uruguay. In addition, the imports grew out of China, Argentina, Georgia, South Africa, and Kyrgyzstan.
Regarding cost, the highest priced mandarins from major suppliers came from Egypt in the amount of EUR1.01/kg for the first 9 months of 2024. in comparison the price to EUR0.70/kg by 2023. Chinese mandarins came next, and were priced at EUR0.78/kg which is a decrease from EUR0.89/kg.
The mandarins that cost the least were imported of Morocco (EUR0.36/kg which is unchanged from 2023) as well as Turkey (EUR0.45/kg which is down from EUR0.51/kg). Mandarins cost the most per kilogram. imports from all sources over the time period was EUR0.77/kg.
