The climate change in Pakistan is affecting the mango production

Waheed Ahmed, Chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Association, spoke about the devastating impacts of climate change on the Pakistani mango production. According to a report from 24NewsHD TV channel, there was an increase of 35% on mango yield this year that Ahmed is blaming on negative climate conditions. The report also noted that, since 2013 an increase in global temperatures has caused a threat to the agriculture industry and the security of food supply in Pakistan.

Ahmed spoke of the necessity of taking action against climate change in order to mitigate any future challenges in food security. He mentioned the deaths due to heat in Karachi as well as the need to import tomatoes and onions in the past year as indicators of more general threats to humanity and agriculture. Ahmed has called for the introduction strategies to combat climate change within agriculture, to ensure the protection of food crops and livelihoods.
