As per the South African Avocado Growers’ Association estimates that the average three-year annual production of avocados of South Africa is 139,400 tons with 45 percent of that is shipped in fresh form to Europe. In the wake of the launch to the Chinese market South Africa has an opportunity to increase the avocado plantations that will significantly create farm-based jobs and indirectly, through opportunities downstream of the farms according to the report.
