“Russia is not aiming to limit the import of potatoes and other vegetables”

As per a statement made by the First Deputy Minister for Agriculture Oksana Lut, Russia does not plan to restrict the import of vegetables and potatoes. Lut also said that the efforts are being accelerated across the country in order to produce varieties that are able to be stored for long periods of duration.

Lut stated that by 2022 7.2 million tonnes of potato harvests were recorded by the organised sector of the Russian Federation, which is 600 thousand tonnes higher than 2021. The production total including private farms, reached 18.8 million tonnes. Over 13 million tons of produce were harvested.

There is an urgent need to import goods. They typically are usually introduced in the month of April. “We have built and continue to build excellent storage facilities as well as assistance measures so that we can keep up on our produce to the end in the growing season we have be working with different kinds. We are planning to use them,” she said, insisting about those that are more durable, have better storage quality, that do not get worse in quality, and “retain their usual, desirable features.”

Concerning the production of tomatoes originating from Turkiye that is restricted by the quota of 350,000 tonnes, Lut said that this is a niche item that has not been considered as an influencer on the industry. As per her assessment, the limit has not selected yet, but there has been no request to raise it. The increase in the quantity of tomatoes coming from Turkiye up to 350,000 tonnes is in effect from April 20, 2022.
