Within Madhya Pradesh, Riyawan garlic is renowned for its distinct flavor and high oil content, was given an Geographical Indication (GI) tag on the 2nd of March. The recognition is an additional GI tag that the region has received for its agriculture-related products. The program, which is led by the Riyawan Farm Fresh Producer Company started in January 2022 which culminated in this major accomplishment. The Riyawan farm is located in the village within the Ratlam district particular variety is notable for its smoky flavor, sour taste and healing properties. This makes it an ideal option for cooking uses for pickles, chutneys and other Chutneys.
The acquisition of the GI tag was made possible through the work by MLA Rajendra Pandey with the help by the Department of Horticulture and Food Processing. The Riyawan-grown garlic, which is identified by the presence of 5-6 cloves in a bulb, does not just enhance the flavour of meals however it also offers capacity for long-term storage. The area of cultivation covers around 200 hectares within Riyawan and extends to about 1300 hectares within the surrounding areas with over 700 people involved to produce it.
