In Bengaluru The anticipation of the festival Gowri-Ganesha has caused a spike in costs of flowers, vegetables and other fruit. The Gowri-Ganesha festival, which is scheduled to take place on between September 6 and 7 is accompanied by a significant rise in the price of these items. In particular, certain vegetables like capsicum and brinjal have seen the price increase by 50 along with potatoes and carrots being more costly. As an example, the cost of brinjal was between Rs40 and Rs60 per kilogram. Capsicum was available for sale at Rs55-Rs60 per kg. Meanwhile, potato and carrots could be purchased in the range of Rs60-Rs80 per kilogram, and between Rs40 and Rs50 for each kg, respectively.
The sector of fruits was also not the only one to suffer from these developments as Yelakki bananas, oranges as well as apples seeing increases in prices. Bananas cost 160 rupees per kilogram and oranges for the price of Rs200 for a kilogram, and the price of apples varied between Rs150 to 200 per kilogram. Akram Pasha, who has been a regular seller of fruit in the K.R Market, remarked, “The prices of apples are more affordable now, due to the right time to pick them. Prices used to vary between Rs200-Rs250 for a kilogram earlier but they’re now sold at Rs150 for a kilogram.”
