“Pink tomatoes packed in blue plastic containers that look like wood, and smells like sea”

The Cretan export and packing firm Amountzas begins into the season of new with specially designed packaging that is specifically for pink tomatoes. “Pink tomatoes have seen an increase in popularity with Cretan cultivators over the past 2 or 3 years. They have a higher resistance to ToBRFV. They are sought-after by Serbia, Bulgaria, Kosovo as well as others Balkan nations. We’re always interested in developing new products. Therefore, we have made the decision to offer our first-quality pink tomatoes that are grown in Crete with a unique modern, blue plastic package that appears like wood, and smells like sea air,” Mr. Odysseas Amountzas in charge of the Cretan business tells.

“We chose to make use of tough plastic which can also be used to print our name and logo as well as the information of our products. It’s awe-inspiring that the surface, even though it is it is made of plastic, has the appearance of wood due to the wood grain-like pattern that it has formed. In addition the bright blue hue is in stark contrast to the pink hue of tomatoes. It also is strongly invoking the sea as well as Greece to highlight the authentic authenticity of tomatoes. Additionally, we offer a different packaging design, inspired by the opposite color of the Greek flag: white. White has to be perfect as the tomatoes we use inside the package,” the Greek exporter declares.

The way the Mr. Amountzas explains: “In this packaging design, we offer two layers of huge pink tomatoes, each of which weighs between 300-400 grams. This is a high-end product, which is based on the flavor of the tomatoes that have delicious seeds and juicy flesh as well as the high-end strength and quality that the package has.”

In the coming weeks as the weeks progress, more of this packaging is expected to be shipped to Balkan markets. The Cretan tomatoes have recently entered a period with increased production however it isn’t at the same level as normal. “We are currently operating at between 20 and 30 percent capacity because of the delay in the plantations. The production is expected to peak at mid-January at 25-30 tonnes every week. In the present prices for growers of pink tomatoes is ranging from 0,60 to 0.80 euros per kg. The Elpida variation is priced at between 0,80-0,90 euros. The price for Ekstasis has a price of 1 euro/kg.” The Mr. Amountzas reports.
