China releases catalogue of ‘three new food items’

In May of 2023 The People’s Republic of China National Health Commission (NHC) announced the catalogue of food ingredients, different types of food additives and other food-related products (referred to “three new food items”). They were released in the period from 2009 until 2021 and accompanied by relevant guidelines for food safety. The report offers an informal version of the catalog as well as the corresponding regulations.

China provided an 18 month interval of transition for new food ingredient to ensure that they meet the safety standards of food and the specifications in the catalog.
