Filipino officials plan to set up “onion’s competitiveness enhancement fund”

The Filipino House of Representatives, legislation that would establish an Enhancement of Competitiveness Fund for Onion (OCEF) is being considered. House Agriculture and Food Panel chairman Mark Enverga of Quezon, House Appropriations Panel Chairperson Elizaldy Co of Ako Bicol list of party members, as well as House the appropriations panel’s vice-chairperson Stella Quimbo of Marikina City proposed the bill as part of House Bill 8462.

House Bill 8462 further declares that OCEF will be used for the development of support and development programs for those who benefit from Philippine onion farmers as well as the industry of onion in the country. This will includes support for inputs to farming and equipment, as well as technologies for production, farmgate price support, credit crop protection, cold and storage warehouse facilities, extension and storage services, as well as market information diffusion, and many more.
