According to a spokesperson from The Department of Agriculture, the export of Philippine avocados to South Korea will begin on the 30th of September. Director of the DA-Bureau for Plant Industry Gerald Glenn Pantganiban told reporters that the avocados will originate from certified DA-BPI orchards as well as packaging houses from Dole Philippines in Davao, Bukidnon and South Cotabato.
This milestone in market access is enabled by the work of DA-BPI as well as the Philippine Agriculture Office in Seoul.
Access to the market for Hass avocados to Korea was requested first from the Philippine government in 2009. However, it was delayed in the wake of the one-at a-time policy on pest risk assessment (PRA). This PRA to Hass avocado resumed following the Philippines have achieved the market for exports of okra to Korea from 2021.
