Table grape production in Australia is expected to grow by 230,000 metric tonnes (MT) during the marketing year (MY) 2024/25. This is the second-highest recorded up from the estimated 195,000 MT in MY 2023/24. The record-breaking figure is due to the favorable seasonal conditions to date and the possibility that the conditions will remain favorable until the close of the harvest. This will result in premium table grapes for the coming year, and will increase the amount of quality grapes available to be sold on the market for export. This increase in production and the quality of grapes is expected to lead to the third highest export record in history of 135,000 MT in MY 2024/25. In addition, the projected increase in production is anticipated to result in a 10-percent increase in consumption domestically for the year 2024/25.
EXECUTIVE SUMMER
The table grape harvest in Australia will likely to grow by a record 230,000 metric tonnes (MT) during the marketing year (MY) 2024/25 compared to around 195,000 MT for MY 2023/24. The increase in production is due to favorable weather conditions. This includes exceptional cold chill hours, as well as extremely warm temperatures at maximum that have resulted in the most intense buds in the past few years. In the event that these favorable conditions last until the final day of the harvest period, an impressive table grape harvest is anticipated for the MY 2024/25. This optimal growth environment along with the prospect that the harvest will be blessed with favorable conditions will likely to improve the quality of the table grapes which will result in an increase in quantity that is suitable for export market. Thus, exports are predicted to increase by 135,000 MT which is the third largest for Australia ever recorded for MY 2024/25. China remains the main marketplace for Australian table grapes despite the decline in import demand in excess of fifty percent in the past five years, due to the increase in domestic production. Nonetheless, Australia’s proximity to China as well as its top-quality table grapes production positions it in a favorable position against South American competitors. It is predicted to result in an increase of 10 percent in consumption by 2024/25. But, the consumption portion of production is predicted to fall as a higher amount of high-quality grapes is likely to go towards the market for exports.
