Austrian as well as Slovakian farmers work together to safeguard crops from freezing nighttime

Some of their plants and trees were able to sprout quickly, Austrian farmers are now in a frenzy to secure their harvest. The cold winter weather has been slowing the growth of trees’ delicate buds, so farmers have turned to innovative measures to safeguard the trees. Certain are using heaters that force heat directly on the plant. This warm air may be spread throughout the gardens.

On some farms, farmers are using artificial irrigation in order to make the ice which is meant to shield the plants from freezing.

Slovakia

In Slovakia the workers spend their nights in the orchard and careful to place paraffin flames beneath cherries to guard them from frost. They use charcoal stoves, candles and smoke-projecting devices to ensure the temperature of -1 to zero degrees to preserve the trees that grow cherry.

Apple trees are surrounded by ice an operation that creates bubbles that surround the buds. This keeps those parts with the highest sensitivity to temperatures of 0 degrees.
