The state government in Jammu and Kashmir plans to encourage the Doda district’s “Guchhi” mushroom. Participants are hopeful of being granted a geographic indication (GI) label for the wild fungus that occurs naturally in the lower slopes of the Himalayas.
As a food with a high nutritional value, Guchhi is a member of the family of Morchellaceae from the ascomycota. It is rich in vitamin B C D C, D and It is most likely most expensive fungus that exist and is worth anywhere between Rs 30,000 to the equivalent of Rs 50,000 for a kilogram.
