Recent Potatoes USA survey investigated different regions’ most popular, healthy ways of eating the huge squash. The results could be a surprise to you.
“As dietitians I’m aware of how much nutrition of potatoes,” said Bonnie Johnson, M.S., R.D. director of industry and nutrition relations at Potatoes USA. “I am also aware that there are just as many delicious potato recipes in the world as Americans We enjoyed watching how the versatility of potatoes to work with nutritious methods.”
Survey Results
If Americans were asked to choose their most healthy way to consume potatoes, baked potato came out the top spot (41 percent) and was followed by potatoes mashed (17 percent). Take a close study of the results and you’ll notice some local trends that emerge.

Deep South, Mid-Atlantic and PACIFIC The people who live along the coasts love steaming and boiling potatoes most (a preferred choice for 14% of those living throughout each of the three locations). The bright side is that it’s a good thing.
Whatever way you or your neighbour – decides to eat potatoes, rest certain that you’ll enjoy an energizing, satisfying bite that’s not going to break the bank.
They are a rich source of nutrients. Medium skin-on potatoes provide almost one third of your daily vitamin C intake 15% DV of potassium, and 10% of the daily value for vitamin B6. They are gluten-free, cholesterol-free, fat-free, and sodium-free.
Studies that was published within The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics revealed potatoes to have the best rating per dollar of eight vital nutrients like the amino acids potassium, fiber and vitamin C, E as well as calcium, iron, and magnesium. They also have a greater time to store than other fresh fruits and vegetables.
“Potatoes are healthy, tasty and inexpensive – which is an idea that everyone can accept,” Johnson added.
