Gilgit-Baltistan cultivators hope to increase their profits and incomes because China is for the first time permitted the import of fresh cherries from the region of northern China along with other cities from the neighboring Pakistan.
The mild climate of GB has enabled it to be the largest producer in the world of cherries. In the past three decades specifically, the cherry has become GB’s most important cash crop and has seen an increase in production.
The volume of the cherries grown within the area was 26788 tonnes. According to Javed Akhtar of the local Agriculture Department, over 8,000 tonnes of cherries are being harvested each year in GB.
