The market for wholesale in Vashi gets the garlic of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh and these states experienced a decrease in production this year. This decrease in production has affected the quantity of supply, and then prices began to rise. After the green and tomatoes the prices of garlic have begun to rise in the retail market. Prices for garlic have been able to reach a high of Rs. 230-230 for a kilogram. According to traders from the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) it is an increase of 25%-30 percent increase in the price over the past two weeks.
Normally the wholesale market is able to receive approximately 20 trucks of garlic. In the last couple of days, this amount has fallen to 10. In fact the Thursday of this week, just seven trucks brought garlic.
