A few Moroccan exporters and farmers have made statements over the past couple of days they believe that “Morocco Foodex has set an official launch date in the Moroccan Hass avocado campaign.” Sources have also stated that this date falls on Oct. 28, and have welcomed the “measure to protect the reputation of the Moroccan country of origin”. But, Morocco Foodex denies introducing any restrictions of this kind.
The Morocco Foodex representative says, “The activities we carried out during the lead-up to the official launch of Hass 2024/2025 campaign is not belong within the guidelines for control. We’ve never put a limit or a specific start date in the past especially not this year.”
The source goes on to say, “We monitor the ripeness of avocados, i.e. the amount of dry matter within the fruit. We also check for compliance with standards of the markets that we are supplying to. The shipments of Hass avocados that meet this standard have actually been delivered by Morocco on or before the 28th of October. In the event that other exporters had delays in their deliveries this was due to anticipation of ripening the fruit, and not in any reason to do with the announcement of a launch date for the campaign.”
“Regardless of the type of product, citrus, avocado, or any other the product, we don’t impose the same general regulations. We deal with each situation individually in ensuring conformity with the specifications to each product in regard to the specifications of the market destination as well as those of the representative bodies for the industry within Morocco,” the source states.
