Morocco creates a new export blueberry record with volumes reaching to every major destination

Morocco has reached a major achievement in the export of blueberries which set a new record in the 2023/24 period (from July through June). As per EastFruit The nation not only increased its reach to all the major markets that export fresh blueberries but also experienced a remarkable increase.

The season that ended recently, Morocco exported an impressive 77,000 tons of blueberries, a 25 percent increase over the prior season. This is remarkable, as it represents almost four times the amount of Moroccan blueberry exports from in the season of 2017/18. The same time frame Spanish share of the main source of Moroccan blueberry sales fell between 80% and 30 percent.

In spite of this change, Spain maintained its position as the most important source of Moroccan blueberries during the 2023/24 period. Shipping to Spain increased by 11% and reached 20100 tons. Similar trends of positive growth were seen across different European markets. Exports for instance into the United Kingdom from Morocco increased by nearly one-third, reaching 14,600 tons. The same goes for the Netherlands at 42% up in 14,500 tons. They also increased exports to Germany in the range of 25%- 4,300 tons, and then to France in 19% increments or 3,900 tonnes.

The blueberry trade of Morocco spanned the globe to Europe. Within the Middle East, the country exports 1,800 tons of blueberries. The major buyers being Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. In addition, Moroccan exporters successfully increased the amount of blueberries exported into North America, delivering 360 tonnes towards the United States and 900 tons to Canada.

Southeast Asia – encompassing Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia is a crucial region to Moroccan blueberry exports to Asia. Morocco is currently ranked among the top five biggest suppliers countries of this region.
