Moroccan market has opened for US seeds potatoes

The 10th of May 2024, 2024 on May 10, 2024, the Moroccan market was opened to U.S. seed potatoes, the culmination of a process for regulatory approval which began 9 years back. In the meantime, the Moroccan sector of food processing is looking into U.S. varieties of potatoes to plant, which could later be utilized to create potato chips, fries and other products. To date, five U.S. varieties of seed potatoes are already successfully licensed for importation: Atlantic, Chieftain, Cal White, Ranger Russet and Clearwater Russet. After these registrations are completed, U.S. exporters can start shipping these kinds as soon when they can find Moroccan buyers.

As part of a market evaluation in 2018 conducted in 2018, it was estimated that the U.S. industry estimated the possibility of the Moroccan market for seeds potatoes at around 8 million dollars.
