Latvia is planning to increase the number of prohibited Russian and Belarusian imports of products

Latvia’s Ministry of Agriculture in Latvia will soon propose an increase in the number of items that originate from Russia and Belarus which may be subject to the ban on imports. This plan, which includes an array of livestock and agricultural products is scheduled to be reviewed through members of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Prime Minister Evika Silina said similar proposals are under consideration by Poland as well as Lithuania.

The expanded ban might comprise a range of different vegetables including tomatoes, potatoes onion, garlic and even carrots. The fruits like dates, bananas as well as berries, together with nuts, could be included. In addition, the restriction could apply to cereals like wheat, rye and maize, as well as the products made from these grains.

Furthermore it is planned to apply to pellets, flour made from different sources as well as bran as well as other wastes that are intended to be used as animal feed. It is notable that the updated list does not include fruits, oilseeds and specific plants which were considered prior to the exclusion. This modification demonstrates the changing structure of the regulatory framework as a result of the current tensions between Russia as well as Belarus.
