Kyrgyzstan expands the import of bananas coming from Ecuador by 30 percent in 2024.

From January to the end of November in 2024 Kyrgyzstan exported 33,050.9 tonnes of fruit valued at $24.2 million, as per information obtained from the National Statistical Committee. This is a substantial improvement over the timeframe in 2023, when the imports reached 25,725.4 tonnes at a cost at $16.8 million.

Particularly, imports from Ecuador exceeded 29,099.6 tonnes valued at $20.87 million. This is an increase of 30% in comparison to 2023 when 22,271.9 tons valued at $13.33 million was exported.

Kyrgyzstan buys bananas from Ecuador for an average cost of $717 per tonne.

Other major banana suppliers to Kyrgyzstan from 2024 included:

  • China: 2,168.9 tons worth $1.39 million (no imports from China have been recorded for 2023).
  • Russia: 1,222.7 tons worth $1.39 million (a lower value than 2,779.7 tonnes in 2023).
  • Kazakhstan: 421.8 tons.
  • India: 64.2 tons.
  • Uzbekistan: 0.2 tons.
