“Kawane apples have lots to offer international clients from all over the world”

In the 2024 season of Fruit Attraction, FDA International is deciding to present its brand new apple under the brand name Kawane. According to the company’s director Christophe Artero, this two-tone type of apple comes with a variety of advantages in the export market. “We have been selling this product for around two years ago. We tried it out in a chain of supermarkets and feedback from customers was favorable, which is why we chose to launch it in Madrid this year. We did that by making an exhibit specifically for the product.”

Sweet apple which is well-traveled

Aiming for far-flung markets including Central America, the Middle East and Asia, Kawane is a “very brilliant, bright and red washed and unstriped” apple. Kawane is distinctive because it has a an extremely high sugar level and exceptional quality of firmness. “Generally the very sweet apples tend to be less in their firmness. It’s not often for apple varieties to be able to mix the two aspects. This has a huge advantages for export markets since the apple is able to be transported over large distances, which are getting longer because of the present maritime freight issues. In addition it is able to meet the needs of international customers who are attracted to sweet apple. Because it is stable during the transportation process, there’s low loss or decline in products, resulting in a large sales, which makes it desirable to retailers.”

The Kawane is a standout from the crowd in a very competitive marketplace.

An apple with a sweet taste that can travel easily is exactly the goal FDA International wanted in order to navigate the export market which are becoming tougher to get into today. “On international markets, competition has become more intense, as is an increasing number of customers and their suppliers. In the highly competitive marketplace we needed to break away from traditional brands and discover a product which stands out from the other brands. With the results we have seen that we have seen, we are now looking to expand even more and make it available across other supermarket chain stores.”

What is the reason for Kawane?

Many thoughts was put into the marketing of this particular variety in foreign market. “We have decided to label the apple Kawane because of the Caouanne which is a type of sea turtle currently in danger of extinction. They are private, which is as our policy. They’re gorgeous and traverse the oceans in a similar way to the variety of apple. Since we are a specialist in marine-based products We liked the analogy of this serene turtle traversing across the seas.”

FDA International and Kawane will attend Fruit Attraction (Hall 6, Booth A08).
