Market participants polled by Mintec during the final week of May had been expecting low-quality shipments as well as new retail sales in anticipation of the report on position for May scheduled for publication the 9th of June. The estimates for the May almond shipment were in the range between 180 and 205 million pounds and the majority of market participants reported numbers of between 190 and 200 million pounds.
“People had been relying on INC to boost sales in May however, this hasn’t been the case which is why I’d suggest it’s likely that we won’t surpass 200 million pounds,” an US exporter told Mintec.
According to market analysts, this scenario would place 2022/23’s ending stocks at around the 750 million pounds figure. Based on April’s positions report, inventory levels it would be necessary to have the average level of shipment to be 1 million pounds per month for the next 3 months (May-July).
