Innovative CA technology that allows for a seamless transition to the season for Brussels sprouts

Primeale United has developed a novel method called Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage that optimizes year-round the security of supply for Brussels sprouts for their customers. CA storage can extend the time-to-market of Brussels sprouts as well as reduces the seasonal transition.

When using CA storage it reduces the amount of oxygen in the air that is present within the Brussels sprouts storage space decreases while boosting the content of carbon dioxide. This prolongs the shelf life of Brussels sprouts and permits Brussels sprouts to remain fresh to last longer, while keeping the their quality and flavor.

In the wake of the wet spring, Brussels sprouts were planted more late than other seasons. Brussels sprouts are likely to only be available on the marketplace in the coming months. The delivery of Brussels sprouts purchased from CA storage could be an option for us to speed up the transition into season European season.

“The European sprouts season for Primeale United started last week in France. Within the Nantes region, Primeale United has some 15 hectares of its own plots, on which Brussels sprouts are cultivated. We’ll also begin harvesting in the Netherlands in the month of April. Thanks to the supply of CA storage facilities, France along with the Netherlands and France, we will keep providing Brussels sprouts to our customers in the difficult season,” the company said in an official statement.

Unique on the marketplace

The CA storage system specific for Brussels sprouts, was designed in collaboration with Primeale United in collaboration with an experienced partner in storage for fruit. Following successful tests in a limited size, commercial deliveries may be delivered to a variety of clients this year.

“At the processing plant located in Dinteloord, Brussels sprouts are cleansed, sorted and, in some instances, are prepared to be eaten. The majority of Brussels sprouts available for eating are selected 100% through the Sproutcam to ensure the best choice of quality. The facility is top-of-the-line as well as BREEAM accredited. The chain is a short length and completely refrigerated making sure that Brussels sprouts arrive at the store fresh and crisp.”
