In the summer of this year, there’ll not be enough cherries, apricots as well as early sweet cherries. The plum harvest, cherries, and the late sweet cherries can be a bit unpredictable as it is dependent on the weather during the second week of May.
Cherry plums and apricots were the most impacted by the conditions. The fruit’s growth was delayed because of the frigid, windy and rainy conditions towards the start of May. A lot of areas in the United States experienced fungal infections among apricots because of rainfall in April during the flowering season.
The pricey sweet cherries could be explained due to the scarcity and resultant higher cost of import sweet cherries imported from Spain and Portugal, which could cost between 25 and 25 euros per kilogram. Additionally, Ukraine imports apricots and cherries from Uzbekistan as well as Tajikistan and then sells them at as little as 5 euros.
