“In recent times there has been a rise in demand of Spanish table grapes have been increasing throughout Eastern European countries”

The availability of Spanish table grapes that are seedless increases as summer advances. “We have started the harvest at week 25 but the peak of our production will be in August and September, and we anticipate that they will peak around weeks 45 to 48,” says Juan Jose Ibarra of the department for sales at Moyca One of the top Spanish table grapes producers and trader.

“The climate has been a perfect one for the vineyards, with not excessively high temperatures, and cool evenings in contrast to last year when we experienced several heatwaves during this time of the year and a lot of kilos could have been wasted,” says his colleague who works in sales, David Mora. “Also, Spain has made great use of their springtime, and there is some overlaps in the grapes with Egyptian the grapes.”

Moyca was able to produce 75,000 tons of table grapes during the 2023 season and the coming year, it is expected to produce 80,000 tons due to the introduction of different varieties, as well as the growth of acreage. This allows it to begin earlier and end more late, particularly for the white table grapes. Most of their table grapes are grown in Murcia as well as some plantations are also located situated in Almeria as well as Badajoz. Then, they move towards imports.

The company is home to more than fifty commercially available varieties within the portfolio. “Moyca is at the top of its game in the testing of varieties, a procedure conducted by breeders and our highly skilled technical staff. It is all about quality, consistency, and the profitability of the grapes, from the agronomic perspective that is an important issue, considering the ever growing prices. While there are more producers however, we were the first to pioneer the creation and promotion of Cotton Candy. Moyca works exclusively with certain varieties which are adored by those who demand the best. The products continue to be promoted as a top-of-the-line product brand for the firm,” says David Mora.

Imports are growing, are a result of the growth in Spain’s market. Spanish market

In the last few years, Moyca has been working through the winter months to satisfy the demands of its customers throughout this time. “In the current season of imports we’ve increased our sales volume due to the confidence of our customers and the growing use of grapes without seeds,” declares Juan Jose Ibarra.

“We are a prominent presence in the regional stores in Spain and over the last few years are opening lines to ensure that this product is in their stores throughout the year. In the present, 90% of the supermarkets offer imported goods and we’ve increased our presence in line with. The customers of Spanish retail stores are beginning how to recognize the many kinds of products available, and they know better what they’re searching for.” the man says.

In the opinion of Juan Jose, there is ample room to grow in the domestic market. “Many chains have already introduced specific varieties as well as the fruits that is sold in large quantities. Based on the most recent trends that aim to provide greater efficiency, we’re developing a 150-gram snacking package.”

But, any type of expansion always comes with difficulties. Cost of living increases because of inflation is associated with a small reduction in the intake of fresh fruit. “We have noticed slightly with the sales of table grapes due to the fact that it’s more valuable when compared with other fruits that could be considered to be commodities. However, it’s not so bad as it was in the situation of the berries.”

Growth in exports of Eastern countries

Moyca exports to over 40 nations, with important grape growers like Italy in which, according to David Mora, there has witnessed a massive shift of seeded varieties to seedless varieties that are promoted in highly attractive formats.

In addition, there has increased exports of Spanish table grapes to Asian countries, but these volumes are still small as compared to those processed by Europe. But, this year’s exports are likely to be affected due to the ongoing conflict within the Red Sea.

“At present, deliveries to Asia are only carried via air, at very high costs, and consequently only in smaller quantities,” says Juan Jose Ibarra. “These markets do not take massive quantities of wine therefore it is possible to source alternatives from such areas as Eastern Europe, where the market is growing rapidly. States like Poland, Romania, Lithuania or Lithuania, Czech Republic or even Switzerland are typically destinations for Italian wine, but these markets are increasingly relying on us and order our wine sooner,” he says.

“What makes Spanish table grapes to stand apart in their place in the European market is their quality services, logistical as well as the variety of variety. It is particularly the case with Moyca as we are able to provide the most suitable options of red, white and black for every market, at each phase of the marketing campaign. We strive to maintain consistency and high-quality, as in the absence of this, it is impossible to be a successful leader.” They say.
