Himachal Pradesh introduces innovative horticulture policy

Himachal Pradesh is on track to be the first State in India to introduce a special Horticulture Policy. The goal of this initiative is to increase yields and also designate the region as the “fruit bowl of India.’ the Chief Minister of India, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, revealed the details in a report of the HP Shiva Project. It is estimated to cost $1292 million this project covers to 6,000 acres across seven districts. The plan is to plant 60 lakh fruit saplings, including citrus fruits, guava dragon fruit, pomegranates blueberries, and jackfruits in 2028.

This policy is intended to include marginal and small farmers and improve their economic standing. The plan, which is expected to be completed by 2032 expects to yield 1.30 lakh tonnes of fruits annually worth a total of Rs 230 crore. The project will create job opportunities for 82,500 persons.
