The year 2023 was the one in which Mexico saw a major decrease in the export of avocados being the most drastic decline of thirteen years, according to information from Banxico. In spite of an 23.4 percentage rise in the export volume as that was reported by the Agricultural Markets Consulting Group (GCMA) in total, the value of avocado exports fell each year by 10 increasing to US$2.9 billion in the period from January through November.

While it was able to produce 72.8 percent of Mexico’s total avocado production Michoacan suffered a decline in value for exports. Michoacan along with Jalisco are the only two states that are authorized to export avocados to Japan, the United States, Canada, and Japan. Even with the decreases expected to 2023, the strategic position of the two Mexican states, as well as the ongoing growing demand worldwide for avocados offer potential for the industry to grow in the coming years.
