Climate alteration means that conventional and organic farmers around the world cannot rely anymore on the past performance. The weather changes affect the quality of yields, supply volume as well as the continuity of supply. This is why there’s a greater emphasis on the reliability of storage and refrigeration technologies.
Luuk Salomons “The the world is our field of play”
A multinational company with a focus on storage technology and refrigeration is Omnivent located in Zeewolde. Omnivent has been managed by Luuk Salomons (56) since the year 2000. He was a fresh graduate of Wageningen University (agricultural engineering and measurement and control technology) and a student at Wageningen University, he decided to take his own initiative in acquiring the business. The company was one he had been with for a while. Omnivent after completing an internship with the company and was employed for many years. Then, in the latter part of 1990s Luuk was offered the chance to buy the business. Luuk was able to take out a mortgage on his house and secured financing from a bank as well as sourced additional money through friends and family. In terms of accounting, the purchase was fairly easy.
“It was a huge leap of faith” Luuk recalls, “but my experience and background in Omnivent helped me gain the faith in the strategic direction to continue the business. That’s what we achieved. In the beginning, we employed 40 full-time workers; Today, we’re staffed with 175 employees. However, it is impossible to predict every challenge which may arise in the course of a relaunch and afterwards. When it comes to those situations, endurance and the ability to think on your feet are vital. Perhaps the most crucial thing is the support from your family and family and friends. When they leave the confidence of self diminishes and this is when you’re at the beginning of the.”
Principles of technical analysis
Omnivent is a company that aims to guarantee all-year-round availability of food by developing and developing customized storage solutions that meet the specific needs of customers across the globe. “Not each country or continent has the same extreme weather. It is just the start of a structural shift in our climate patterns. This makes it difficult to discern certain developments. Weather patterns have become more unpredictable and puts farmers, both organic and conventional–at a more risk.”
To minimize these risks, Luuk emphasizes the importance for reliable storage and refrigeration solutions to allow farmers to keep their harvests for longer periods, and ensure the availability of their crops. “To meet the growing demands around the world, we concentrate on three fundamental concepts: quality of the product as well as energy efficiency as well as ease of operation.”
Since its beginning, Omnivent has collaborated with customers to improve their knowledge of the preservation of fresh and agricultural products. “Additionally Omnivent’s research and development staff continually innovating. Through the application of this information and research, we are able to continue to meet customer needs.”
“Refrigeration as well as storage technology are getting more robust”
Market risks and opportunities
We’re aware of the threats caused by climate change and economic instability as well as uncertainty in the political landscape, as well as social aspects. Global order is experiencing radical shifts,” Luuk acknowledges. But, he is of the opinion every problem however fundamental it is, brings opportunities.
“We already see increasing demand for modern refrigeration and storage equipment. Farmers are more focused on improving the good quality of their harvests, instead of just maximising the volume. This means that they would like to be able to offer all the crops they produce, thus decreasing waste, and maximising the net income they earn. The storage and refrigeration systems can play an important role in getting this done.”
Omnivent manages between 150- 175 projects around the world every year. They serve both organic and conventional farmers and associated businesses. Omnivent’s approach to expansion and stability is based upon diversification. “Our production facilities are located in Poland Our research and development facility is located in the Netherlands and we service clients across all continents. The markets that we work within can be very different however, because we make custom-designed solutions, we’re very flexible.”
The notion of “focus” doesn’t exist in the approach of Luuk. “Too too much geographic focus could be a risk. It reduces flexibility and can increase the risk.
Continuity
In 2025, Luuk and his team are expected to remain flexible to the global demands. According to Luuk, the key to this is to continue focusing on professionalism as well as a desire to build loyalty among employees–the most important pillars of an effective business. “Retaining employees is crucial. One of the biggest challenges will be finding the experts with the highest level of expertise. It is well-known that there’s a severe lack of skilled workers in the Netherlands We are experiencing the effects of this also.”
Luuk acknowledges that there isn’t an immediately a solution for this problem. But, he believes there is a lot of opportunities in organic farming. “We see a worldwide rise in the demands for biodynamic and organic farming. At present, around 15 percent of our clients base is organic and biodynamic farmers and we anticipate this percentage to double by 2025.”
Recalling his core belief, Luuk concludes: “We are going to keep an eye focus on the global trends by 2025, because the world is our playground.”
