CMR Group has just launched the Banarica brand for its bananas, which it imports from Guatemala, and with which it expects to grow in terms of volume in the coming years, both in supermarkets and wholesale markets.
“We have been marketing these bananas from Guatemala since January this year, although until now we had been selling them under a generic brand. Now we are packaging and selling them under our new brand name Banarica,” says Jordi Martí, Sales Director of CMR Group.
“The producers we choose to supply us with products for our brands must meet certain characteristics,” says Martí. “This is one of the largest banana producers in the world. It works with the product’s main multinational distributors and, therefore, has very strict rules when it comes to cultivation, which results in a very good quality product. We’ve had the chance to see it all for ourselves first-hand in the plantations in Guatemala.”
“Extremely sweet and with a smooth texture, these Guatemalan-grown bananas offer a unique experience in terms of aroma, flavor, and juiciness that will delight those who taste them. They are grown in volcanic soil areas with a warm and humid tropical climate, which gives them exceptional organoleptic properties appreciated all over the world and, from now on, also in Spain,” says Martí.
According to CMR’s Sales Director, Guatemalan bananas offer logistical advantages compared to those of other origins, such as Ecuador. “Guatemalan bananas, like those from other countries in Central America, offer a shorter transit time and can reach Europe at a lower cost than the bananas from large producers such as Ecuador.” The company already imports other products from Guatemala, such as mangetout peas and blackberries.
Banarica bananas, which are the product of 30 years of experience, have several certifications, including GlobalGAP for good agricultural and environmentally-friendly practices, Rain Forest Alliance for responsible production, SCS, which is a guarantee of sustainability, and NSF, which guarantees that they comply with the public health and safety standards established by the organization.
“In order to guarantee the preservation of their properties, the bananas, prior to shipment, are stored in a complex in Puerto Barrios which has a refrigerated warehouse with a capacity for 7,000 pallets, 5 independent cooling chambers, 8 pre-cooling tunnels, as well as pressurized tunnels with a capacity for 384 pallets,” says Jordi Martí.
