“Cherry season generally was good for traders and growers”

There aren’t many Greek fruit trader experienced a difficult season due to climate conditions. As per Apostolos Tsinoglou, the owner of Europe Export, the Greek Exporter of fruit Europe Export, they’ve actually enjoyed a fairly good year: “For this year’s cherry season, we’ve had an excellent year for the growers as well as fruit traders. There were certainly difficulties in the form of conditions and quantities, but we made the most of what was we were given.”

Tsinoglou claims that the hail also caused damage to the forests in the mountains, and caused the volume to fall in the cherry harvest of this year. “About 15-20 days back, Greece endured hail in specific areas, and it was indeed a problem for our country. The hail also caused significant damages to the trees of the mountains. For the quantity of fruit of fruit, this year’s was 30percent less than last year’s, however, the size of the fruits were larger than the previous year.”

In the absence of Greek cherries has meant that prices are increasing at the start of the growing season “Overall the result of these issues was an increase in the prices of cherries. The prices for the cherries ranged from 2.3 euro up to 3.3 euros per kilogram for the growers. At the conclusion of this year’s season prices have slowed down with 3.2 euro up to 3.8 euros per kilogram.” Tsinoglou concludes.
