The first time in years that the price of vegetable in Russia are on the rise in the heat of summer.
It was reported that the Russian Federal State Statistics Service reported an average of 0.66 euros for a kilogram of carrots. This is more than 20% more expensive than the month of June.
Potatoes, which is one of the major food items found included in the Russian consumer’s basket, saw the price rise of 23%. The price increased from 0.36 euros for a kilogram in June up to 0.43 euros by July.
According to producers of agricultural products and vendors, prices for vegetables have experienced dramatic and abrupt shifts. The significant price increase is due to the shortage of vegetables because of extreme weather conditions that have reduced the amount of cultivation for certain kinds of vegetables along with a decline in quantities of imported goods due to logistics-related difficulties and limitations.
