Benin’s sugarloaf is frequently described as the most sweet pineapple anywhere in the world’. The fruit is currently being showcased for the first time during the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

Elysee Kahomey the Benin’s deputy ambassador to China spoke of “I’m happy that Benin’s Chinese visitors can taste Benin’s fruit.” A tons of the pineapples were sent right after they were picked in the West African country, and were delivered to Shanghai on the 3rd of November so people attending the Expo were able to taste these fruits, Kahomey said.

Benin is the fourth biggest fruit exporter of Africa and has an annual production of around 400 000 tons. The most important export market is Europe.
