PepsiCo Egypt celebrated the fourth year of the potato crop. It was one of the “She Feeds the world” program, which began in the year 2020, in partnership together with Ministry of Social Solidarity and the CARE Egypt Foundation, and thanks to the assistance of PepsiCo Foundation, the company’s charity branch. The program PepsiCo Egypt aims to provide assistance to 390,000 people through the empowerment of 10,000 women farmers across the governates which include Beheira, Giza, Minya as well as Beni Suef. The initiative also intends to help rural women succeed who work in agriculture, encourage self-sufficiency and the empowerment of their economics, in addition to improving the lives of residents and advancing the rural community. This is consistent with the pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) as well as Egypt 2030 Vision.
The event was hosted by the Dr. Mohamad Hany Ghoneim, the Governor of Beni Suef; Mohamed Shelbaya the Director for PepsiCo Egypt & North Africa and Nehal Hassan El-Kouesny, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of CARE Egypt Foundation and in addition to the participation of many farmers, both male and female who are part of the program.
This season saw an amazing improvement with respect to the structure of the program with regard to the quality of the crops and also an extension of the work scope that includes a greater number of participants. Female farmers who participated of”SFtW,” the “SFtW” program were able to overcome various obstacles and hurdles and were able to be entrepreneurs after being able to demonstrate their expertise in the field of agriculture by being able to complete the entire process for producing top-quality potatoes. It included acquiring seeds, cultivating crops then selling them to several sources, among them one of the primary producers to Chipsy Egypt.
The event also included a review of the results achieved by the program in the fourth season in a row and a review of its impact in the daily lives of participants as well as their family members. In the course of the celebration, participants shared their successes experiences, including the improvements that they’ve witnessed both personally as well as professionally thanks to the training and initiatives that are offered through”SFtW” program ” SFtW ” program.
Dr. Mohamed Hany Ghoneim, the Governor of Beni Suef, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the productive partnership between the public as well as private sectors as seen in the “SFtW” programme. It is managed in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Solidarity in partnership together with CARE Egypt Foundation and PepsiCo Egypt. He said that the program coincides with the strategy of the state for sustainable development that enable Egyptian women generally especially those living who live in the rural regions. This project is also in line with the state’s initiatives to create villages within “Hayah Karima”.
