The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has witnessed significant increase in exports of agriculture to important markets like Iraq, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and the UK growing at rate of 110%, 46 percentage, 18% and 47%, respectively. APEDA’s efforts to develop a strategic plan aim towards diversifying the Indian export basket by prioritizing products of high importance including fresh fruit and vegetables, processed foods and animal-based food products. This approach aims to lessen the dependence on certain products as well as to climb in the value chain.
As a way to improve India’s competitiveness in exporting its agricultural products, APEDA is engaging in alliances with supermarkets around the world as well as reducing logistical costs through the establishment of sea protocols with research institutes. This is an integral part of the APEDA’s larger goal to increase its market share in Europe, Latin America, as well as Asia and fostering sustainable expansion.
Furthermore, APEDA has been instrumental in the promotion of Shree Anna-Millets in line with the goals of the government of cultivating a varied food system. This year’s International Year of Millets 2023 was a time for APEDA’s efforts to develop millet products that are value-added, like pasta, noodles as well as snacks, and then in integrating them in the value chain of exports. The effort does not just bring innovations but also encourages better choices in dietary choice.
