The citrus season is kicking off, with a lot of challenges ahead. “We began with higher demands than there is supply of Clementines. Additionally, nighttime temperatures are higher than normal and this is slowing the development of the fruit,” says Cesar Claramonte who is the director for Grupo Clasol. “To this, we have to add the recent torrential rains across various regions in Spain and the country, which has caused the harvest to be more challenging and affected the health of the fruit’s first variety.”
Grupo Clasol has started the new season of citrus with the opening of their the most advanced and modern warehouse located in Betxi which is a municipality located in the Province of Castellon that can handle 50 million pounds of fruit. It has electronic graders that sort the Clementines and oranges based on the color, size, and the quality. Additionally, it has horizontal weighing equipment to maximize the storage area and hot water disinfection device for enhancing the efficiency of treatments that are that are applied to the fruits.
This facility, which is equipped with the most modern technology can serve as a test template for the application in the “Lean” method and will be replicated at the company’s various warehouses located in diverse locations.
This warehouse Grupo Clasol is in the process of working alongside Oronules, Navelina, Arrufatina and Clemenules and is expected to be operating at its fully capacity in less than three weeks. They will be taking in 500 tons of material per day.
The group already has five warehouses in operation with capacities of 1,000 tonnes per day, and 130 million kilograms of citrus fruit.
