In the Chandpur district in Chattogram, Bangladesh, potato farmers have seen a substantial production of their crop this season, as well as the favorable prices in the market. Despite the harsh weather that included unexpected rain however, the fields of potato in the area have displayed robust growth and have produced an abundance of harvest. The potatoes that have been harvested are available for sale in the market in open markets for Tk40.00 per kg. The farmers getting Tk20.00 per kg at fields stage.
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has established Chandpur Sadar, Matlab Dakhshin, Matlab Uttar, Kochua and Hajiganj subdistricts as primary districts that produce potatoes. The Dr. Shafayet Ahammad Siddiqui, deputy director of DAE in Chandpur said that the potatoes are being grown across 7,110 hectares which is slightly less than the planned area of 7,500 acres. Agriculture expert Mobarak Hossain reported that more than 85 per cent of potato crop has been harvested. There is an expectation of completing this harvest in the coming month.
