Organic vegetables, which are free of synthetic chemicals or GMOs they are integrated into a production process that aims to improve the health of our ecosystem. Despite the rapid growth of organic farming, led by entrepreneurs of the young generation through social media however, this sector is facing significant issues. Costs of production that are high because of the strict demands of natural farming and labour results in organic foods being more expensive by 2-3 times than traditional ones. Their market is confined for consumers of high income, which has slowed the consumption.
Entrepreneurs such as Tran Thi Lan Anh as well as Hoang Hai Hau draw attention to the cost of organic agriculture, ranging from the cost of infrastructure, and the hefty operational expenses that make it difficult to achieve profitability. Economic downturns have further affected the market for organic products which has led to a rise in preservation and selling. As a result, many people have left this industry within short time and others, such as Tran Phuoc Linh are able to achieve results by following niche markets or focus on the specific needs of consumers.
However however, a few organic farmers find results by adjusting strategies or aligning themselves with large corporate farms, indicating an uncertain future for Vietnam’s organic farming sector.
