Farmers from the Hung Yen’s Red River Delta province are getting ready for the harvest of longan which will begin the month of April. It is the Quyet Thang speciality fruit cooperative is located in Tan Hung commune, with thirty hectares of growing longan, expects to produce the production of around 150 tons this year. The cooperative was founded in the year 2017 by 17 families The cooperative’s fruit was the very first product from Hung Yen to reach the EU market by 2020. conforming to the VietGAP standard.

Farm tours and promotions are an integral part of the plan in order to show off their product for a larger audience. Organic agriculture practices is the main focus of numerous local farmers, increasing the security and quality of the longan product for local as well as international buyers. According to Nguyen van Trang as Deputy Director for the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hung Yen boasts approximately 5,000 hectares of Longan orchards. This includes 1,700 hectares that are in compliance with VietGAP requirements. The area is around 34% of the overall land area of cultivation, and includes many products that are recognized as part of the OCOP program. Hung Yen city alone has more than 500 hectares of VietGAP certified longan orchards. 10 of these have earned OTAS certifications.
