Josef Stapf Grossmarkt Ltd has been one of the most prominent market firms in the Frankfurt fresh produce center over the years, and is now the best place to shop for vegetables and fruit that are from all over the world. Through the acquisition by Fruchte Stern Ltd, a couple of years ago it now boasts two stands for sales within the central market hall in the local fresh fruit and vegetable centre. In recent times, two corporate purchase agreements from Uhlemann Ltd in Rosbach and Rogge Obst und Gemuse Ltd located at Rogge Obst und Gemuse Ltd at the Mainz wholesale market have concluded successfully The management of the business told us through an interview.

Exotics are in high demand and loss of quality due to weather are typical for German the cherry season.
Josef Stapf Grossmarkt Ltd has been a specialist exporter of exotics from across the world for several years. “Our exotic collection comprises, for instance pitahaya, yellow and red and Granadilla. The two products are sourced during the winter months, predominantly from Colombia. It is interesting that despite the rise in the rising cost of living, we’ve noticed that there is a huge interest in these exotic fruit. It was even possible to sell the fruits on the pallet, not through crate like the past,” says buyer and seller Christopher Romer.
The Ockstadt Cherry season is coming to an end.
Presently the sweet cherries and stone fruit dominate the scene in the centre for fresh produce as well as on the Josef Stapf Ltd stand. “A popular seasonal item within our selection is the ‘Ockstadter Kirschen’ which are local cherry from the open-ground cultivation. The lack of sunshine hours can mean that, in certain instances the quality of the products is decreasing significantly. The heavy rainfall has led to several cherries to explode that could cause a delay of the season. The first farms that produce fruit will be removed from the marketplace as early in the week of 29.” With regard to Spanish stone fruits, also being offered in the market, the quantity as well as the quality of the early part of the season was good, Romer continues.
Increase in purchasing volume
In addition, two acquisitions of businesses were completed during the beginning of 2013. The first was the purchase from Uhlemann in Rosbach took place on 1 January 2014. It was then three months later, the formal takeover from Gastrogrosshandel Rogge Ltd, based in the Mainz wholesale market. “The recent business acquisitions helped us significantly increase the area we serve,” explains the two-man managing team of Josef Stapf Ltd, consisting of Uwe Sakowski and Miquel Chavero. “In the process, it allows us to offer larger quantities, which can result in increased purchasing capacity. This implies that, in many instances, we are able to purchase and eventually sell the products at less costs. It’s not just good for us but also newly purchased companies and their clients.”
Zugang to trade in food products
Rogge Ltd, the newest subsidiary firm that is part of the wholesale empire located in the wholesale market hall located in Mainz and is happy with its new organization. “As an outcome of the acquisition, a large portion of our products are being purchased centrally. That is the reason why we’ve added new suppliers which we had previously not had any contact. Our customer base, which predominantly is comprised of regional catering establishments farms, as well as weekly markets within the Mainz area, can benefit by the increased range of goods we present along with our vast assortment.”
Customers of Rogge still collect their items locally from the market hall for wholesale located in Mainz However, the situation is expected to shift. “We are looking to provide additional goods in the future. We we are also looking to broaden the sales area to include local retail food markets. The process will likely be facilitated due to the purchase as well as the current network that is Josef Stapf Ltd. This is why we have already anticipated some synergistic effects.”
